Azienda Ospedaliera San Giovanni Addolorata

San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital, also known as Azienda Ospedaliera San Giovanni Addolorata, is a government hospital and one of the largest in central Italy, located in Rome, near the Lateran Basilica, the most important Catholic Church in Rome.

Fellows in Rome have an additional opportunity to shadow at the Doctors in Italy Spanish Steps Clinic, an outpatient clinic in the heart of the city center providing medical assistance in English to travelers, expatriates, embassies, and international students. 

Shadowing at this clinic allows fellows to observe and understand doctor-patient interactions, build a closer relationship with the doctors, communicate with ease with everyone, experience a different healthcare setting and learn about healthcare careers outside the hospital.

If you’re someone who prefers a more relaxed pace or a smaller, intimate setting, the hustle and bustle of Rome may not be for you. Additionally, those seeking off-the-beaten-path destinations may find Rome to be too crowded.

 

However, for students interested in immersing themselves in a vibrant and dynamic city with a rich history, Rome is an excellent choice.

 

With world-renowned museums, beautiful parks and gardens, and a diverse array of culinary experiences, Rome is perfect for those seeking to explore and learn.

Programs for-credit

If you are looking to combine your shadowing experience in Rome with a class, the 5-week program is offered in combination with a course at John Cabot University.

You’ll be able to shadow every morning and spend your afternoons with other students from all over the world at this well-known American University based in Rome.

You can choose a course you like from the portfolio of available options, being mindful of your scheduling conflicts. Classes you select should be held in the late afternoon.

Attendance to classes is mandatory if you wish to receive credit for your course, so choose a class and a topic you are interested in and willing to work for.  

Housing in Rome

Our housing arrangements offer a range of accommodation options to ensure a comfortable and safe stay for all participants in our program. Depending on availability, you may be housed in an elegant apartment, a cozy hotel room, or another type of comfortable dwelling.

 

Regardless of the specific housing option, all of our accommodations are guaranteed to be clean, safe, and comfortable, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the study abroad experience, explore Rome, and get much-needed rest between long days of shadowing.

 

The most common accommodation is in shared apartments with one or two double rooms.

All apartments are equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and private bathrooms, and many also have a kitchen, living room, desks, and a washing machine.

 

The apartments are located in central and safe areas of Rome, with easy access to shops, pharmacies, metro stations, and a variety of restaurants and grocery stores.

 

Please note that the quality of housing may vary and is dependent on available providers. Nonetheless, we are confident that you will enjoy your stay, as we carefully select our providers and work closely with them to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and comfort.
