The Padua program offers an invaluable shadowing opportunity at the Veneto Oncology Institute (IOV – IRCCS), which is the first and only institute in the Veneto region specifically dedicated to cancer research and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tumors.
IOV has established itself as a high-specialization research center and hospital of national and international importance. It is the first institute in Veneto specifically devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tumors and cancer research. With the most current techniques in immunology, genetics, and molecular oncology, the Institute aims to validate and apply cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic pathways to patients, following the most advanced international guidelines, always under the strict control of the Ministry of Health.

The Padua – Venice program provides you with the opportunity to gain professional experience in the academic center of Veneto, Padua while indulging in cultural activities in the enchanting city of Venice, a city that requires no introduction.
Nestled in northern Italy, Padua claims to be the oldest city in northern Italy. History breathes in every corner of Padua, creating a timeless cityscape where the past and present coexist harmoniously. Home to the venerable University of Padua, established in 1222, the institution stands as one of the oldest universities globally. Its rich history is intricately woven into the intellectual and cultural development of Europe. Beyond its historical and academic significance, Padua is adorned with artistic treasures and culinary delights.
What enhances Padua’s charm is its proximity to Venice, a mere 30-minute journey away. Venice, often referred to as the “City of Canals” or the “Floating City,” is renowned for its incredible waterways, historic architecture, and vibrant cultural scene. From the iconic St. Mark’s Square and the majestic Doge’s Palace to the romantic gondola rides along the Grand Canal, Venice offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
Housing in Padua
The housing option in Padua, offered to students in the Doctors in Italy Fellowship program, provides a safe and central location for a comfortable stay. The spacious room is well-equipped with modern amenities, including air conditioning and a private bathroom. The hotel’s recent renovation offers contemporary features, ensuring a pleasant living space and secure environment. Its central location grants easy access to the city’s attractions and amenities, including the metro, allowing students to explore the city conveniently, focus on their shadowing and immerse themselves in the local culture. The friendly and supportive hotel staff enhances the overall fellowship experience for participants.

*Note that program start date listed is always a Sunday and your housing is available from that day. The first day of shadowing is the Monday after move in day. The last day of the program stated is always a Saturday and housing is booked for you up until this morning. The last day of shadowing is the Thursday of that week. The last Friday is kept for final packing and personal tasks, therefore you can checkout on Friday instead of Saturday if that is preferable for you.
